Much time and trouble is taken in locating holes, or in other machine operations, which must be carried out accurately, relative to a given datum. Jig borers are available where extreme accuracy is required and expensive equipment is warranted. In the great majority of cases, however, an accuracy of the order of .001" is sufficient and a jig borer is not available. In such cases the Huffam centre locator provides a quick and efficient means of establishing the required position and can be used on any machine by an unskilled operator. It will indicate the relation between the centre line of any machine spindle and a datum face to within .0005" by the 'run-off' method and to within .0002" by using the light 'line' method. Although ideally suited for use on mills the Huffam centre locator can also be used on drills, lathes or any other rotating machinery employing a chuck.
