6"x1/4" SPARK RESISTANT ENGINEERS SCREWDRIVER
Ai-bronze Non-Sparking Safety Tools
Ai-bronze non-sparking safety tools are manufactured to 25 HRC offering a breaking strain of 75 - 85kgf/mm2. Non-sparking tools are used to replace steel tools in potentially combustible or explosive environments to prevent sparks being created by tools slipping or striking hard surfaces. To totally eliminate fire and explosion hazard, ensure that NO flammable materials are present when using metal hand tools. Because this is rarely possible in practice, plant managers and safety officers often insist that non-sparking tools are used. Non-sparking tools must be maintained with special care, frequent cleaning/re-dressing to remove ferrous or other contaminants, which may impair the non-sparking properties is essential. Tool misuse must also be avoided, e.g. extending handle length for extra leverage. Do not use non-sparking hand tools in direct contact with acetylene, due to the possible formation of explosive acetylides, especially in the presence of moisture. There are many organisations that require or recommend the use of non-sparking hand tools in many industrial applications. For example, petroleum and chemical manufacturing, explosive and blasting agents, the marine industry, the mining industry, the paper industries, spray booth operations etc, all require the use of non-sparking hand tools to reduce the potential for fire and explosion hazards.
