Calibration & Repair

Cromwell Metrology operates as a service division within Cromwell as one of the Cromwell Central Services. Having relocated to a new purpose built laboratory and repair workshop on the company's new head office site at Wigston, Leicester, the division provides a repair and calibration service for a wide and growing range of precision measuring equipment and torque wrenches.

The new calibration laboratory which occupies an area of 106 square metres is environmentally controlled to 20 degrees plus/minus 0.5 degrees and is built on an isolated vibration free floor to provide the necessary conditions for accurate calibration of most types of dimensional measuring equipment. Our repair division is approved to ISO 9001: 2008 by LRQA and the Laboratory is UKAS accredited and conforms to the requirements of International Standard ISO/IEC 17025: 2005.

The division provides fast turnaround together with the back up of a repair workshop, with extensive stocks of spare parts and replacement equipment.

Improved Turnaround

Due to increased levels of staff and capacity, we are now able to offer improved turnaround times for calibration of measuring equipment and torque wrenches.

Calibration Recall Service

By arrangement we can offer a "Free of Charge" recall service to advise the customer in advance of re-calibration dates based on any frequency specified.

Service and Repairs

Service and repairs will now be quoted on inspection with the aim of providing more competitive prices.

Slip Gauge Calibration

We can calibrate and issue UKAS certificates for most types of slip gauge set in either steel, tungsten carbide or ceramic. All used gauges are "minimally lapped" on both measuring faces and ultrasonically cleaned prior to calibration. This is necessary to ensure accurate measurements.

Calibration is carried out to BS EN ISO 3650: 1999 & BS 4311-1: 2007 specification by measurement at five points. Certificates are UKAS accredited and fully traceable to national standards. They are graded to customer requirements where stated and include a chart of errors for the gauges, with a laminated copy in the set case. Where gauges are found to be outside a specified grade, a quotation can be provided for replacements if required. Calibration of replacement gauges is carried out "Free of Charge".

Torque Tool Calibration & Repair

We can calibrate torque wrenches and torque screwdrivers and issue UKAS certificates for wrenches up to and including 1000 Newton/metres (750 foot/pounds). Calibration is carried out to BS E ISO 6789: 2003 specification and measurements are fully traceable to national standards. Most brands of torque tools can be serviced/repaired in our workshop and calibrated if required.
