Due to further expansion, Cromwell, Europe’s leading supplier of industrial tools and the largest British Owned Industrial Distributor with a turnover in excess of £180 million, has an exciting vacancy within its Marketing department at Wigston for a Developer - Web Systems. This vacancy exists within the Leicester based Marketing team that works in close association with the group IT team.

The role

Working in the web development team, you will be responsible for the maintenance of the Company’s internal web systems.  This will involve working on a web content management system, a self-hosted business to consumer website and taking an active involvement in the specification and development of a completely new Content Management System (CMS).  The role involves providing technical support to a two-person web/intranet team responsible for the appearance of our Company website and intranet site.

We are seeking a team player that possesses a high level of initiative and a creative way of thinking.

Qualities

  • Good Object Orientated Design and Programming skills
  • An understanding of the full software development life cycle, as well as an appreciation for both the Microsoft and Open Source environments.
  • Experience with relational databases and advanced SQL statements (cross database queries, stored procedures, joins, foreign keys, etc)
  • Good documentation and communication skills
  • Knowledge of creating easy to use interfaces


Skills

Essential skills:

  • PHP
  • JavaScript
  • Apache
  • TSQL or PL-SQL or PL\PG-SQL
  • Experience with relational database design

Desirable:

  • Perl
  • Python
  • Ability to code towards W3C standards (HTML, CSS, DOM Scripting, HTTP, XML)
  • CVS or Subversion


Experience and Qualifications:

The ideal candidate will have proven experience as a systems developer or software engineer, preferably with a relevant degree or equivalent experience.
