Cable Glands

Cable glands are used throughout industries where cable and wiring are used in electrical instrumentation and automation systems. They are an electrical connector and can be used for electrical power, control, instrumentation, data and telecommunications. They are manufactured from various plastics, aluminium, brass or steel. Here at Cromwell we provide a range of cable glands in various materials, from brands HellermannTyton and Schneider Electric.

Why cable glands?

Cable glands are designed to attach and secure the end of an electrical cable to equipment providing strain relief. They are also used for sealing cables through bulkheads or gland plates. Cable glands are used as a sealing and termination device to ensure that the enclosure that the cable enters can be maintained

Cable gland types

When choosing the type of cable gland it is important to identify the compatibility of the material, sealing performance and circuit rating.

Metal - For electrical continuity and mechanical retention.

Plastic - For corrosion resistant entry into electrical equipment.

FAQs

What do I need to consider when choosing a cable gland?

You will need to consider the type of cable the gland will be connected to. What the electrical test types and what the electrical cable routine tests are.

Does the cable gland need to be water resistant?

If there is a possibility that there could be water entering the cable opening, you will need to choose a water resistant cable gland as this will form a tight seal that will prevent the water entering and causing damage to the electric device.
